Reflexology is a gentle, non invasive holistic therapy, suitable for all ages including children.
When I was asked if I would like to review a Reflexology session with Nicola at Relaxed Soles I jumped at the chance, I enjoy reflexology and the sense of calm it leaves me with so I made the date and looked forward to it immensely. I have previously had reflexology when I have a chest infection, aching joints and generally felt out of sorts.
Reflexology is a gentle therapy that has been practised since ancient Egyptian times. It is a holistic therapy and therefore, treats the "whole" person. In reflexology, the foot is a map of the body and certain areas correspond to particular organs, glands and parts of the body. During a treatment the feet are massaged and manipulated in order to restore balance and harmony. It is estimated that 75% of diseases are stress related. When we cannot cope with stress levels, our immune system becomes compromised and we become more susceptible to illness and disease. Reflexology can help to reduce stress levels through deep relaxation and an improved sense of well being. It may also improve mood, aid sleep and encourage better circulation.
A pilot study found that reflexology profoundly reduced the anxiety "state" with a statistical significance but has no effect on the underlying "trait" anxiety. The reduction was consistent with "an increased feeling of ease and a reduction in anxiety".
Reflexology is one of those things you either love or hate. I love it! I love being cwtched up under a cosy blanket whilst my feet are massaged and a sense of wellbeing washes over me. Of course there are the odd times when it is uncomfortable but the moment passes and when I arise from the chair I am invigorated yet calm.
Nicola is a qualified and insured reflexologist, working in a calm and relaxing treatment room at her home in Barkham, Wokingham, Berkshire who also offers mobile appointments to those who would prefer a treatment in the comfort of their own home or place of work throughout the Wokingham & Reading area. Through reflexology she aims to provide a treatment that will leave you feeling deeply relaxed and with a sense of well being.
I arrived for my appointment and was shown to a warm and cosy room for the consultation which included a medical history. I am such a bad sleeper, have an issue with sciatica and when I get run down my chest bears the brunt so she had quite a lot to contend with!! Nicola uses Niki's Balms which are a blend of organic oils, essential oils and beeswax or just natural coconut oil.
Nicola says "As a reflexologist I do not claim to diagnose or cure and reflexology must not be used as a replacement for seeing your GP".
During the session Nicola did her thing with my feet, she was calm and didn't chat all the way through, intact I think I did the most talking by asking what area of the body it was when she was on an area that twinged. At the end of the appointment she woke up my toes which I thought was a really nice end to the treatment.
It is important to note that reflexology does not diagnose or cure illness or disease, but it can play a role alongside conventional medicine. If you have a pre-existing condition please check with you GP that they are happy for you to have reflexology.
I left feeling relaxed and calm, yet invigorated and recharged, and would highly recommend.
Nicola can be found at Relaxed Soles in Wokingham where she operates from her home or she does do home or workplace visits.
I was delighted to be offered an appointment in exchange for an honest review and have no hesitation in recommending her.
