WALES WEEK COMES TO BERKSHIRE!
First appearing in London in the spring of 2017, the Wales Week initiative is the programme of events that celebrate and promote all things Welsh around the time of St David’s Day each year.
And whilst this year in London looks set to be the biggest yet with some 120 activities and events already confirmed to take place across the capital, we are delighted to announce that 2020 will also see the inaugural Wales Week Berkshire; and there are some fantastic activities and events taking place across the county.
Already announced in the Wales Week Berkshire programme are Crime Cymru / Welsh crime authors Matt Johnson and Alis Hawkins, The Preservation Society, Alder Bags, Welsh Otter, Shellys - The Welsh Shortbread Company, John Lewis & Partners Reading, Rococo Jewellery Wokingham, The White Horse Pub Wokingham, Crema Binfield, The Cwtch Wargrave, The Pantry Yattendon, Oscars Coffee Wokingham, and much much more.
Wales Week Berkshire was started by Nell Williams, who widely known for her passion for Wales; “her enthusiasm for Wales is infectious”, to which she readily admits there is no cure.
Nell said, “I am delighted to be organising Wales Week Berkshire and look forward to sharing some of the very best of Wales right across Berkshire and beyond.”
Wales Week Berkshire features as part of the wider Wales Week initiative, which will see some 20 or more Wales Weeks taking place simultaneously across the world between 22nd February – 8th March this year.
As well as in Berkshire and in London, Wales Weeks will be taking place in Paris, New York, Melbourne, North West of England, Pittsburgh, Newcastle, New England, Kansas, British Columbia, Tokyo, Dubai, Germany, Ohio, Austin, Essex, Dublin, New Mexico and Bangkok, with other locations also being confirmed.
Nell added, “Together we are taking the best of Wales to the world, and making the most incredible noise as we do so.”
Co-founders of the Wales Week initiative Dan Langford and Mike Jordan said, “We are absolutely delighted that Nell has come on board, and offered to take the lead here in Berkshire. Her energy and expertise is precisely what’s needed to bring such a varied and colourful programme of activities together – and she has managed to do so in an incredibly short space of time.
“We have no doubt that through Nell’s efforts, the Welsh living across Berkshire will be increasingly excited with and engaged in the celebrations, and together they will encourage many others across Berkshire to join in and sample the Welsh delights on offer.
“Whether through food, drink literature, film, crafts, business, or whatever, this will be a terrific promotion of Wales.”
